**A warm welcome to our newest Board Member, Brandon Minch!**
Brandon is a self-employed software developer (and aspiring artist). He grew up in a small town in Nebraska and studied oil painting and digital media at Nebraska Wesleyan University before moving to Denver in 2010. Brandon loves all of the outdoor activities Colorado has to offer and recently completed his first Ironman triathlon in November! When he’s not swimming, biking, or running he loves volunteering and hanging out with the staff and kids at The Art Garage every week.

"I love to paint whenever I can find the time. I particularly enjoy painting people because there’s something special about capturing a simple gesture, expression, or moment in time and trying to convey that to the viewer in a way that creates an emotional connection with the subject. However, a close second has to be working with the kids at the Art Garage. Their creativity never ceases to amaze and inspire me!"

Welcome to our new board member, Rochelle Johnson!
Rochelle Johnson was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, where she discovered her passion for drawing at an early age. As a child, she discovered the work of Lois Mailou Jones and Jacob Lawrence. In 1989, Johnson enrolled at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, where she learned to create stories using oils and watercolors. She attained a degree in Illustration.
In 1992, she moved to Seattle, Washington, and returned to Denver, eventually resuming pursuing the idea of storytelling through painting. Today, Johnson continues to develop her unique storytelling style and has added to her accomplishments as a curator. In 2017, she curated Inclusion: Diverse Voices of the Modern West at the McNichols Civic Center Building in Denver, Colorado, and in December 2018, she curated The Search Within Daughter of the Diaspora at the Western Colorado Center of the Art in Grand Junction, Colorado. Johnson is currently a graduate candidate at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

“This magical and terrifying collection, "Surviving Peter Pan" gazes back on childhood ideas of motherhood, marriage, and the story of "Peter Pan" then peels back the layers of this magical land of immortality and adventure to expose misogyny, abuse, and colonization: both in the original text of "Peter Pan" and in the hardships women endure day in and day out. This collection, however, is a reclamation of these oppressive narratives, and a beginning of her own story of independence and flight.”

by Hannah Bean: `[Casey Kawaguchi](`[`https://caseykawaguchi.com/`](https://caseykawaguchi.com/)`)`
"Casey Kawaguchi is a Japanese American artist based in Denver. Born and raised in Utah, his artistic practice began in graffiti, where his dedication to precision met the chaos of the spray can. His work revolves around a recurring character that reflects his identity as an Asian American artist while representing the power of the creativity that he feels resides within each of us. Drawing from his earliest inspirations of comic books, illustration and his Japanese heritage, his work conveys a simplicity and balance, where the contemporary meets tradition in a powerful display.
Kawaguchi’s work has been exhibited across the United States and can be seen in his multitude of murals across metro Denver. Kawaguchi currently works as a mentor at Redline Contemporary Art Center and believes that passing on the creative spark is the greatest purpose his work can serve."
