Plein Air Watercolor Classes at Artsweek Golden!


July 7th-July 11th


This special event will take our artists into the natural environment of Golden, Colorado! Artists will set up their easels and learn techniques from their surroundings. Participants will learn many different watercolor skills such as color choices, watercolor glazing and resists. The Plein Air Event will conclude with a reception, awards ceremony and artwork sale on July 11th. Students are able to submit their completed plein air masterpieces in the art show. The first day students will meet at Meet at Golden History Park at 923 10th St. Golden, Colorado.

VIBRANT WORLD of BATIK

Let’s explore the world of textiles! In this Batik workshop, students will learn all about this ancient Indonesian art form - from its history to its modern day application. Students will choose their color schemes, design their own patterns, and plan out their textile techniques. They will explore fabric dyeing methods as well as learn how to use wax as a resist in order to give fabric that richly colored and antiquated finish that batik is known for. GLASS ETCHING: SHAPES AND CHEMISTRY

In this glass etching workshop, students will learn about the power of positive and negative space as well as organic versus geometric shapes. We will apply hands-on science and safely play with corrosive materials to learn the art of etching! If they wish, students can bring their own smooth glassware to use, or take advantage of a variety of other glass surfaces supplied by The Art Garage. This workshop will explore the wonderful world of watercolor! Students will learn from many demos and hands-on activities about color choices, watercolor glazing, and resists. Within the four hour workshop, students will be able to create three or four masterpieces. Our subject matter will very from landscapes, floral still life, people, animals, buildings, and more! We are here to help guide these assignments and give technical and constructive lessons and feedback to help aid your student’s application process. We will focus on creativity, observational skill and structured art elements and how to apply these to your student’s individual style. Still life, portfolio construction and passion for art will be heavily discussed and studied. PRINTMAKING CLASS

We will cut, etch and carve into surfaces to make our own printmaking plates. Artists will learn how to use the negative of an original block to depict shapes and forms within their prints. We will learn transfer techniques such as tiling, collagraph and drypoint etching. Join us for this special class where we will even use our own printing press!
