This class is open to the public, and not limited to Smith Elementary students. Students in this camp will make artworks that will be incorporated in The Art Garage’s 4th of July Parade procession and will be invited to participate in the parade! Follow the animal tracks to The Art Garage and learn about the protecting wolves, eagles, bears and so many other native Colorado animals. Students will learn animal facts and the importance of kindness towards animals. Each day students will bring home a new animal masterpiece and create animal inspired costumes. Show less

This class is open to the public, and not limited to Smith Elementary students. We’re heading into the heart of the jungle this week as artists get inspired by the spots, stripes, scales, and speckles of jungle animals. Students will learn an advanced grid drawing technique to enlarge and reproduce a favorite image in incredible detail, explore a variety of materials, and play with patterns and silhouettes while creating complex compositions. From Kahinde Wiley’s use of pattern to William Pope’s incorporation of performance, young artists will explore materials and techniques through artists who have influenced the modern art world. This class is open to the public, and not limited to Smith Elementary students. _Love Monster, Tickle Monster,_ _Glad Monster,_ and _Sad Monster_ are just a few of the monster books that will inspire this creative camp about some of the most cuddly and kind monsters we know! Working with acrylic paint, watercolor, oil pastels and mixed media, campers will create monsters inspired by literature, including their very own, unique monster friend. Show less

This class is open to the public, and not limited to Smith Elementary students. Combining fantasy and art, students will create a monster from their imaginary closets! From inception to completion and from horns to hairy feet, these monsters will be uniquely yours. Students will draw and plan out their monsters and then spend the week creating their monster in different media including paint, clay, and recycled material sculpture. *Please note: This program is grant funded and attendance is required. Families will be refunded $5 per day attended on the last day of class, up to the full $20 tuition. Show less

Then this camp is for you! Join us as we look to beloved artist and author Dr. Seuss and his menagerie of strange and unusual creatures. After creating a 2D sketch, students will use wood, wire, and paper mache to craft unique 3D sculptures that bring the Seuss-iverse to life! Show less

In this class, young artists will explore their emotions through creative processes, take inspiration from emotive artists, and read books that support their social-emotional learning. We will experiment with how different colors and materials can represent or make us feel different emotions, and investigate our feelings before and after making art. Show less

We will combine drawing and painting to teach the fundamentals of portraiture, such as proportion, perspective and rendering. Artists will find inspiration in famous self-portraits from art history as they create multiple self-portraits in different styles and media. Show less

Taking inspiration from famous artists like Frida Kahlo and Van Gogh, artists will learn how to use color, pattern, and composition to create expressive and realistic self-portraits that not only look like them, but reveal their personalities and interests.
