Honey, I shrunk your art! It’s all about miniatures in this class. Join us as we use a variety of interesting materials in order to create our miniscule masterpieces! Learn about charms, milagros, worry dolls and other forms of tiny art. Lessons will be adapted appropriately for each age group.

Description

What is a “Collage n’ Draw” artwork? You begin with half of a picture from a magazine… and now it is time to create the other half all by yourself! We will use parts of images and finish them with our own artistic discretion. Let your imaginations run wild as you create your art with these mixed media collage, layering, painting and drawing techniques. Lessons will be adapted appropriately for each age group as teachers integrate this theme into their classes.

Description

What can you make out of your own scribbles? We will use simple and complex lines to create wondrous masterpieces! Artists like Picasso, Agnes Martin, Aaron Earley and David Hockney will serve as our inspiration as we explore the simplicity of line techniques. Blind contour, cross hatching and cross contouring will be the technical focus of this class, and methods will be adapted considering appropriateness of age.

Description

Let’s explore the relationship of depth, perspective and composition in this spatially focused class. Artists will think in linear, aerial and varied compositional techniques to create works of art inspired by Van Gogh, MC Escher, and Stephen Wiltshire. Many artists use colors that are opposite of each other on the color wheel to create contrast and vibrancy. What will be your useful opposites?

Description

Our adult ceramic class will meet every Monday evening. This course is great for any beginner, intermediate, or advanced student. The five week session will be structured to ensure you learn the aspects of hand building, wheel throwing and glazing. Instructions will be taught by our skilled instructor as students develop and grow their ceramic techniques. There is an available additional/make-up class the week after each session to ensure you can finish any work in progress. Instructor - Kylle Been **Material fee not included. $13 due at time of class for clay. Additional clay cost - $13/25lbs

Description

This class is a follow up to our fall and winter Visual Art Portfolio classes. This 4 week session will focus on drawing from a creative prompt and students will study the ideas behind thinking beyond lateral or literal meanings. We will discuss creative thought processes and how to translate them into interesting and expressive artwork. Each week will hold a different and insightful prompt to help practice intuitive drawing.

Description

Each week, the instructor will give a short demo on different watercolor techniques at the beginning of class. Students will paint at least one painting each week with individualized instruction. Class will focus on different concepts including value, color theory and composition. Additionally, class will explore other themes such as complementary color schemes, gradated washes, combining collage and watercolor, texture and atmospheric perspective.

Description

Put your art thinking caps on for this top notch club! Artists will put their heads together to come up with silly, sophisticated and functional hats! We will use paper mache, felt, glue, paper and fabric. We will even redesign old baseball caps, create new hats from recycled junk art materials and look into science fiction styles such as steampunk! You will have enough hats to fill up a whole hat rack when you are finished with this club!

Description

"Oh! That's so rough!" "Ooooo...bumpy!" Texture can sometimes be a tricky thing to define. In this class we will use texture in a variety of ways to help convey our artistic ideas! We will look at the difference between actual texture and implied texture. We will discover new ways to explore the bumps and ripples within our paint marks. A variety of tools and materials will be used in this afternoon class. This class will be available for multiple age groups and will be modified for each age appropriately.

Scientific illustrations are the catalyst for this class. We will explore the life of plants and what makes them each unique and interesting. Pen and ink, watercolors and charcoal will be used to illustrate these leafy, colorful illustrations. Through science and art students will learn about each plat, study it’s features and then use their artistic skills to capture what makes each plant unique!

In this journaling club artists will design their own journal covers and explore the pages within them! The pages we will be filled with poetry, drawings and whatever else inspires you! We will recycle old books by gessoing the pages and starting fresh! Any and all materials will be available to help you explore the pages of your new recycled journal!

This class is taking the self portrait to the next level. Many practicing artists shy away from drawing the human body, but not at The Art Garage! Students will not only study the features of the face but they will explore shading, contour and dimensions of the face through collage as well. This is a great, opportunity for an tween/teen artist to continue to investigate their passion and skills in art.

Let’s celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day by creating art that celebrates peace and unity. Peace flags, mandalas and doves are common symbols of peace and in our classes we will collaborate together to create artwork that represents harmony.
