Description

In this class students will work on the iPad’s DAW (digital audio workshop - garageband) to create their own musical compositions using midi instrument as well as select instruments the teacher will bring in. The students will then design their own album artwork, promo poster, and visualize the sounds that they have created. Students will learn the basics of songwriting and how to use DAW’s to produce music and how visual imagery relates to other art forms. Students will need to bring their own headphones.

Let’s get ready for spring! In this class our artists will learn about printmaking techniques, resists and color theory. They will use this knowledge to then design their own windsocks based off their own design and ideas for construction. How many tails will your windsock have? Where will the tunnel be for air to blow through? These answers are all up to you as a windsock designer!

Description

This club will be sure get you into a musical groove! We will make our own ceramic whistles! The first week we will learn how to make pinch pots that will be the start of our whistles and also test out glazes and other techniques for our whistles. Then we will practice some carving and start to construct our whistles! We will even place holes in our whistles and learn how to make different notes and turn our whistles into small flutes! Get ready to be able to play Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star!

Who need pencils when you’ve got glue to draw with!? In this exploratory class artists will paint, draw and use glue in other ways besides adhesive techniques. We will explore glue with sand, watercolor resist and colored glue by mixing it with various different types of paint. Lessons will be modified so that they are applicable to a range of ages.

Each week, the instructor will give a short demo on different watercolor techniques at the beginning of class. Students will paint at least one painting each week with individualized instruction. Class will focus on different concepts including value, color theory and composition. Additionally, class will explore other themes such as complementary color schemes, gradated washes, combining collage and watercolor, texture and atmospheric perspective.

Description

Patterns were used in many different types of ceramic and pottery designs throughout history. The Greeks, Egyptians and Chinese used patterns in pottery to express important qualities of their daily lives. Artists will use patterns and repetitive shapes to express themselves and the meaning of their ceramic masterpieces.

Students will press into styrofoam sheets or carve into EZ cut blocks or linoleum and print the designs making their own suite of prints to take home. We will tile, pattern and overlap out relief prints to make different stylized patterns and mosaics. Lessons will be modified so that they are applicable to a range of ages.

We will look at the positive and the negative as we cut and paste shapes of paper to create uniquely tiled art. This japanese style of paper art incorporates the use of cutting out positive shapes and then pasting them back down to form new shapes.

Hill and house should live together each the happier for the other.” The artistic buildings of Frank Lloyd Wright are inspiring to many artists and his appreciation for style and form. We will look at Frank Lloyd Wright as well as Colette Vermeulen and Eric O’Malley who were highly inspired by him.
