Week of Sep 1 to Sep 7

Description

Does your student need help working towards an art portfolio or visual art audition? We are here to help guide these assignments and give technical and constructive lessons and feedback to help aid your student’s application process. We will focus on creativity, observational skill and structured art elements and how to apply these to your student’s individual style. Still life, portfolio construction and passion for art will be heavily discussed and studied. This would be a great opportunity for students inquiring about enrollment at Denver School of the Arts or other visual arts schools.

The first day of class we will search through recycled books to find which one will become your own to alter. We will then build into them to create a hidden compartment. Each day we will experiment with new materials and techniques to use inside your book’s pages. We will use gesso, watercolor, acrylic paint, collage, pen and ink, typography, and even draw
coded design messages. Creative prompts will be used as jumping off points into the artistic process!

One of the most difficult parts of painting is knowing where to start. This class will explore the importance of planning and sketching. Students will learn how to sketch freehand and quickly through rough exercises that will turn into their final paintings. This class will cover contour sketching, warm up techniques and creative prompts. We will then apply our sketch techniques with watercolor painting additions. This class is great for any artist interested in learning the start to finish of beginning painting.

Charcoal is not simply black and white. In this class, artists will learn techniques to push the boundaries of this medium. Through both abstract and figurative work, we will explore value and texture using subtractive and additive methods. Students will bring in their own photograph from which to reference in their final charcoal drawing. Join us for this exciting study.
