Summer FAQ

Updated May 12th, 2023 ## See all of The Art Garage's 2023 summer camps [HERE](https://artgaragedenver.com/courses?categories=7)! ###### Summer Camp Format at The Art Garage Summer camps at The Art Garage are one-week long, Mondays through Fridays (the week of 4th of July is three days, Wednesday through Friday.) Art Garage hosts six camps per week, three in the morning (9AM-12PM) and three in the afternoon (1PM-4PM). Each camp is for specific age groups, and a student must be in the age group for the camp. Camps are for ages 3-12. ###### Summer Camp Lottery **The Art Garage Summer Camp 2023 lottery has officially ended.** We encourage you to sign up for the Alert List for camps you are still interested in, as it is common to see cancelations throughout the summer. To do this: 1\. Make sure you're logged into your Art Garage account\. You'll see your name in the top right corner if you are signed in\. 2\. Click the gray "Alert Me" button on any camps you are interested in\. 3\. That's it\! All parents on the list will be notified _simultaneously_ via email (sending address: [noreply@artgaragedenver.com](mailto:noreply@artgaragedenver.com)) when a spot opens in a camp - there are no positions on the list. Registration is then first-come, first-served through the website. ###### Offsite Summer Camps The Art Garage will also be hosting 2023 Summer Camps for students ages 5-14 at Westerly Creek Elementary School (8800 E 28th Ave, Denver, CO 80238) and McGlone Academy (4500 Crown Blvd, Denver, 80239)! Registration for these camps is through open enrollment (not through a lottery system). Offsite summer camps will run Monday-Thursday, 8:30AM-3:30PM (except the week of June 19th at McGlone Academy - in observance of Juneteenth, the school is closed on 6/19 and camps will run Tuesday-Friday, 6/20-6/23). **Summer Camp FAQ - Onsite Camps** **Is there an option for full day camps?** The Art Garage offers half day camps from 9am-12pm (AM) and 1pm-4pm (PM). Students have the option to sign up for both the AM and PM camps and stay at The Art Garage for the full day (9am-4pm). Students who attend full day may pack a lunch and eat with staff between 12pm-1pm. **What is the price?** The Art Garage's half day (9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm) Summer Camps are $260, for 5 days (Monday-Friday). Camps the week of July 3rd are $156 as they are 3-day camps (Wednesday-Friday). **Is there a waitlist for full classes?** If a class is full, The Art Garage has a notification system if a space becomes available. Sign in (or up) to your Art Garage account, find the desired class and select the “Alert me” button below the full class. You will receive an email if a space becomes available. All parents who have signed up for an alert for the class will be notified _simultaneously_ and registration will be first-come, first-served through our website. **Will the students be inside or outside?** Classes will be held both inside and outside the building. Classes will take place inside for the majority of the time, but students may work outside during class for specific projects and media. The Art Garage will close its bay doors if external temperatures exceed 80 degrees in order to maximize the efficiency of our swamp cooler and keep our students cool and comfortable. In this case, entry doors and windows will be left open to increase air circulation. Kids' classes lasting 3 hours or more will take an outdoor snack and story break during class if external temperatures exceed 50 degrees. Please make sure your student is dressed in weather-appropriate clothing for being outside during snack time.  If it is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit outside or in the event of extreme weather,  students will eat their snack indoors. **Do I need to pack a snack and water?** Yes. Please pack a snack and water bottle for your student(s) each day of class.  The Art Garage will not be providing snacks in order to keep our students as safe as possible.  If your student is enrolled in both the morning and afternoon class, please pack a lunch for them to eat in between classes as well. **What should my child wear?** Please dress your child to get messy, as not all paint we use in class comes out of clothing.  Summer camp students will receive one Art Garage t-shirt per summer that we recommend students use throughout their camp as an art smock.  We also have new Art Garage shirts available in a variety of sizes for a suggested donation of $10 each.  Since snack time often happens outside, it is also important that students wear or bring weather appropriate clothing and sun protection to class. **What is your pick up and drop off protocol?** Both sign-in and sign-out will take place at our gate. Adults will have the option to walk their students into/out of class after signing in/out at the gate with our staff. If adults do not wish to walk their students in/out of class, they will be walked to/from class by a staff member. **Can my child sign themselves in and out of class?** Yes, if you complete a drop off/pick up waiver for your child and they are at least 9 years old.  This waiver can be found in your student’s online profile under "Alternate Transportation Permission." You can access your student’s profile by logging into your ArtGarageDenver.com account, clicking on your name in the top right corner, and choosing “My Account.” Next, click the “Edit” button next to a student's name to edit their profile and click “Next” at the bottom right to skip pages. Transportation permissions are at the bottom of the last page. Click "Finish" to save changes. **What are my options if a registered student is unable to attend a class they are registered for?** You can donate your registration to The Art Garage to scholarship a student who would otherwise not be able to afford to attend or with two week notice we are able to transfer the student to another class if space allows. **Can a student transfer into a different class than what we registered for?** Yes, with two-week notification prior to your start date we are able to transfer a student to a different class if space allows.  Space is very limited this summer so please call us ASAP to transfer a registration to another class at 303-377-2353. **Can I give or sell my registration to a friend?** Yes. A sale or gift of your registration to a third party is permitted. The student taking the place, must be within the correct age group for the class. The Art Garage MUST be notified of any changes to your registration and the purchaser or recipient of your registration must create an account on The Art Garage’s website if they do not already have one. A new account can be created by going [HERE](https://artgaragedenver.com/signup). **I would like to speak to someone regarding protocol.  Who can I speak with?** Please call us at 303-377-2353 and we are happy to answer any questions. **I have children in different age groups.  Can we combine them into the same class?** In order to best meet the needs of each student we would like to keep kids in their specified age groups.  If your child is not registered for the appropriate age group you risk losing your registration for that class. If you have concerns about this, please contact Art Garage at 303-377-2353. **How many students will be in my class?** Class size varies depending on the age of students, class topic and studio. Classes range in size between 6-16 students per class. **Does my child need to attend summer classes for the entire week?** We encourage your child to attend the full week of our summer classes to get the full experience and to ensure that the students finish their projects. **Can you pro-rate a week long summer class if my child can not attend the full week?** No **If my child is 3 years old, can they attend classes for the full day 9am-4pm?** Our morning classes 9am-12pm are for our three year old students. We have found the afternoon class or full day has proven to be uniquely challenging for a three year old child. In order to provide highest quality of programing we are only offering half day classes for our three year old students. **If my child is (5 or 8) can they join the next age group up (6-8 or 9-12 yr olds)?** Students must be signed up for the correct age group. As our classes are combined ages, we want to ensure that our instructors are meeting the needs and challenging the participants in age appropriate ways and therefor, it is important to register your child for the correct age group. **Can we carpool with another family to class?** Yes, carpooling is not an issue for pick up and drop off. Please let the office know if your student/s will be going home with another family. **Is student work ever displayed during camp?** We encourage our instructors to have a Friday Reflection time. This will consist of a teacher’s choice “roundtable” type discussion about the student’s artwork, experience that week, or an art show. If the instructor does hold an art show all parents will be notified and can join at the end of class on Friday. ##### **Summer Camp Lottery FAQ** Casual. Low stress. No rush. Easy. ###### Lottery With feedback from parents and the community, this year Art Garage will make Summer Camps available on a lottery basis. Here's how it works: ###### Sign Up Phase We began by opening the lottery to everyone who had interest in enrolling one or more children in Summer Camps at the Art Garage. This phase ran from December 20th through January 15th. Because this is a lottery, there is no first-come-first-served aspect, so there is no rush to sign up. Each week of camps is a different lottery. Parents enter the lotteries for the weeks that have camps they have an interest. Parents may enter as many weeks/lotteries as they like, but only once for each week/lottery. This gives them a chance to register up to three students for each camp that week. Those three students may be registered in both morning and afternoon camps. In other words, it is possible to register 6 camp spots in a given week, three in the morning and three in the afternoon, with each child attended two camps per day. We opted for lotteries based on weeks rather than camps to provide the possibility of enrolling children for full days at Art Garage, and the potential to enroll siblings on the same days. Parents may request more than three students by phone, space permitting. When you enter the lottery for a given week, the blue "Enter!" button will become a green "Good luck!" button. If you wish to un-select a week, you can click the green "Good luck!" button again to withdraw from that week's lottery. You must be signed into your account to enter the lottery. If you don't have an account, create one [HERE](https://artgaragedenver.com/signup)! ###### Lottery Selection Phase The lottery selection process began on January 16th and continued until all the spaces have been filled, or all applicants have had a chance to register, whichever comes first. The selected applicants are notified by email and will also receive a text message notifying them of the email. As of March 21st, 2023, selected families will have 24 hours to register for classes after being selected. These selections are non-transferrable, and may be used to register only the applicant's family members. The selection expires in 24 hours after the applicant has been notified, or the applicant declines their selection. In either case, the opportunity to register will be withdrawn and offered to someone else. Applicants are sent several email reminders to encourage making use of or declining the selection. Selections are made by computer using a blind, random process. Not every applicant will be selected, and it is possible for an applicant to be chosen more than once. Applicants will be notified when all the weeks they applied for have been filled. Another email will be sent to all participants when the Selection Phase has ended and the remaining camps, if any, are up for grabs. As the lottery starts to come to a close, you may be awarded a week and find that the camps in your student(s) age group(s) are full.  Since entries for the lottery are by week and don't specify age groups or times, you will still be notified of selection even if your desired classes are full. We encourage you to click the "Decline this Week" button in your selection email if this is the case, allowing the next family to be selected.
